UNITED MUSIC TEACHERS JUNIOR AWARDS
This will take place on June 16th, 12 noon, at Killara Music Room, 131 Fiddens Wharf Road, Killara.
  
United Music Teachers Junior Awards:
  • UMT Junior Awards: This Award was formerly known as the United Music Teachers Award.
  • At the discretion of the Adjudicator, up to seven successful performers in this section are awarded Certificates, together with a prize of $70 each.
  • UMT Musicianship Award of $100 for the most musical performance, regardless of level, may also be given, at the discretion of the Adjudicator. This award can be given as a separate award, or to one of the UMT Junior Awards recipients.
 
RULES:
  • Instrumentalists must be 14 years and under, and Vocalists must be 21 years and under, as at 30th June in the year of entry.
  • This section is open to Individual performers, duets, or a group of performers. Please note that only the main performer will be the subject of the report for adjudication of the award/s.
  • Performances should be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 6 minutes total. No repeats are required, but da capo signs must be observed. 1 OR 2 works may be presented in this section.  Performance from memory is encouraged.
  • Previous UMT Junior and Musicianship Awards Winners are excluded from competing in this section for the following two years.
 A UMT Junior Award winner is a performer who received a $70 UMT   Junior Award AND/OR Musicianship Award. Previous winners in this section may choose to audition for the Roger Woodward Awards
  • There is no entry fee for this section.
  • All decisions by adjudicator are final.
  • The inclusion of duet or small group performances is on a trial basis for 2019.



ROGER WOODWARD AWARDS
This will follow at the conclusion of the United Music Teachers Awards above, on the same day, at the same place, beginning at 2.00 p.m.

Main Award:
  • Roger Woodward Award: one main award of $400.00 and Certificate,covering piano, vocal or instrumental performances.
Other Awards in this section:
  • Best Performance of a Baroque Work: $100.00 and Certificate
  • UMT Encouragement Awards: at the discretion of the adjudicator one or more can be awarded, up to a total of $400.00

RULES:
  • Instrumentalists must be 18 years and under, (Vocalists no age restriction) as at 30 th June in the year of entry
  • This section is open to Individual performers, duets, or a group of performers. Please note that only the main performer will be the subject of the report for adjudication of the award/s.
  • Performances should not exceed 12 minutes
  • Two works of advanced standard (8 th grade and above) are to be presented, with a strong contrast in period, mood and style
  • Pianists and vocalists must perform from memory. Instrumentalists are encouraged to perform from memory.
  • Previous Roger Woodward Award Winners are excluded from competing in this section again.
  • Entry fee is $15.00, which will be included in the audition fee.
  • A copy of the music must be available for the adjudicator on the Awards Day
  • If the adjudicator feels that the standard is not high enough awards can be withheld.
  • All decisions by adjudicator are final.
  • The inclusion of duet or small group performances is on a trial basis for 2019.


   
PRESIDENT'S AWARD

  • At the discretion of the Adjudicator, a monetary award of up to a total of $400.00 is presented, as either a single prize, or as two prizes.
  • The competition is for Instrumentalists only.
  • Relevant certificates are also presented.
  • This award can be cancelled at the discretion of the President if it is felt that there are insufficient entries of a suitable standard.
RULES:
  •  Instrumentalists must be 19 years and over, as at 30 th June in the year of entry
  • This section is open to Individual performers, duets, or a group of performers. Please note that only the main performer will be the subject of the report for adjudication of the award.
  • Performances should not exceed 12 minutes
  • Two works of advanced standard (7 th grade and above) are to be presented, with a strong contrast in period, mood and style
  • Memory work is encouraged but not required.
  • Previous President’s Award Winners are exluded from competing in this section for one year after receiving the award.
  • Entry fee is $20.00, which will be included in the audition fee, or paid on the Awards Day if there is no audition.
  • Where there is no audition, the applicant will be accepted to perform at the discretion of the President.
  • A copy of the music must be available for the adjudicator on the Awards Day
  • If the adjudicator feels that the standard is not high enough awards can be withheld.
  • All decisions by adjudicator are final.
  • The inclusion of duet or small group performances is on a trial basis for 2019.

President’s Award is held at the conclusion of the the Roger Woodward Awards.

Door Entry: 
N.B. TEACHERS entering Students MUST be members of the UMT
Performers: no charge. Audience: $15.00 single entry, $25.00 for two people, or $30.00 per family.
