Upcoming Events - North Western Region

Below are the upcoming events of the United Music Teachers North Western Region.

Auditions
North Western May Concert and UMT Awards Audition

Sunday 26th May 2018, Time: TBC

 This concert is an opportunity for students to Audition for the UMT Awards Finals Day, that will be held in June. Finalists will be drawn from all the Regions of the UMT.
 
An panel of teachers will decide upon and present Best of and Commendation Certificates in each section. From this the finalists to go forward to the Awards Day Finals will be chosen - up to 3 for the Junior Award, and up to 3 for the Roger Woodward Award. If there are sufficient entries of a high quality for the President’s Award, this will also be held on the Audition Day. 
  
Section 1: Auditions for the UMT Junior Award (formally known as the UMT Award, 14 Years and under)

Participants: Instrumentalists: 14 years and under; Vocalists: 21 years and under; 
  • Duets/small groups may enter, but must fall within the age restrictions.

Accompanists do not have an age restriction.

Performance: 1 or 2 pieces, minimum Grade 4 AMEB standard.

Timing: between 3-6 minutes.

Memory: optional but encouraged.

Restrictions: Performers who have won a UMT or Musicianship Award in this section, cannot enter for the Junior Award for the next two years. However, if time allows, they may still perform at this concert purely for the experience of performance (Maximum 4 minutes). They may wish to consider entry into the Roger Woodward Award if they can play two pieces from memory.
Section 2: Auditions for the Roger Woodward Award
  
Participants: Instrumentalists: 18 years and under; Vocalists: no age restriction; 
  • Duets/small groups may enter, but must fall within the age restrictions. Accompanists do not have an age restriction.

Performance: Two contrasting pieces of at least Grade 8 standard.

Timing: between 6-12 minutes.

Memory: Pianists and Vocalists are to perform from memory; memory work is encouraged for instrumentalists.

Restrictions: Performers who have previously won a Roger Woodward Award cannot enter for this section again. However, if time allows, they may still perform at this concert purely for the experience of performance (maximum 8 Minutes). 

Section 3: Auditions for the President’s Award - this award is currently under review.

Participants: Instrumentalists only, age 19 years and over. 
  • Duets/small groups may enter, but must fall within the age restrictions. Accompanists do not have an age restriction.

Performance: Two contrasting pieces of at least Grade7 standard.

Timing: between 6-12 minutes.

Memory: memory work is encouraged.

Restrictions: This is under Review.
