Upcoming Events - North Western Region

Below are the upcoming events of the United Music Teachers North Western Region.

Autumn Concert Day

Sunday 9 April 2017

A non-competitive concert, inclusive of all grades. Members may enter their students, and this is not exclusively piano performance. Other instruments and ensembles/duets etc are very welcome. Depending on the timing of each performance, one - two items per student can be presented. 

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 5th April. Please email Convenor with the following information:
Child’s Name and Age
Name of Piece(s) and composer name
Approximate timing of each piece
Include any special requests in this email as the concert will be in two parts, beginning at 2:00pm and approximately 3:15pm. Afternoon tea will be served at the conclusion of the first session.

Door Entry: $5.00 including performers, or $15.00 per family
Fees are payable on the day.

Professional Development - Workshop with Sandra Nash

Friday 28 April 10:30am - 12:30pm

Sandra Nash is a specialist in the Dalcroze philosophy and methodology. This workshop will focus on practical ideas for the studio teacher, using rhythm games to aide concepts of tempo, note reading, metre, and the use of conducting and simple materials. Music subjects to be addressed may also include: phrasing, anacrusis, metre and polyrhythm. 
Participants will be fully involved in practical experiences using a range of materials and a selection of exercises that demonstrate ways of adapting Dalcroze principles to the studio setting.

The rules of entry to this award are outlined under the event "Awards Day Final” below.

Initial Auditions for this Award will take place on Sunday 4th June at the home of Mrs Estelle Shields, following those for the United Music Teachers Awards. For the Roger Woodward Award three entrants only will be chosen to proceed to the finals. There are to be 8 finalists altogether, drawn from North West, North Shore, and Central Areas.

Awards Day Final
United Music Teachers Awards, President’s Award, Roger Woodward Award

Sunday 18 June 12:00pm

UNITED MUSIC TEACHERS AWARDS
This will take place on June 18th, 12 noon, at Killara Music Room, 131 Fiddens Wharf Road, Killara.
Door entry - $5.00, including performers.

Up to seven successful performers are awarded Certificates together with a cheque for $70.00. There is also a $70.00 award for the most musical performance.

Rules:
  • Players should be 14 years or under at June 18th 2017. Singers should be 21 years or under.
  • You may play one or two pieces. An extra copy of each piece is to be provided for the adjudicator. 
  • Performances should be between 3 minutes and 6 minutes – no repeats, but do repeat da capo returns.
  • Winners of UMT Awards from previous years may not compete again.


ROGER WOODWARD AWARDS
This will follow at the conclusion of the United Music Teachers Awards above, on the same day, at the same place, beginning at 2.00 p.m.
Door entry: Adults - $10.00, Children under 12 - $5.00, Families - $20.00.

There is one main award of $400.00 covering piano, vocal, and instrumental players.
An award of $100.00 for the best performance of a Baroque work.
Encouragement Awards of up to $400.00 at the discretion of the adjudicator.

Rules:
  • Players should be 18 years or under at June 18th. Singers have no age restriction.
  • Performances should not exceed 12 minutes.
  • Two contrasting works are to be presented and an advanced standard of performance is required.
  • Pianists and singers must perform from memory. For instrumentalists, memory is encouraged, but optional.
  • All decisions of the adjudicators are final.
